Grey Cup Coming To Edmonton November 28, 2010, How Does Football, Outside Elements, & Self-Massage By Cynthia Barnesky- Nov 25, 2010
Last week November 21, the CFL had the west playoff game in Calgary, Alberta; it just happened to be the coldest playoff game that was ever recorded coming in at -21°c; the players and the fans alike had a hard time to stay warm.
Just around the corner; Sunday November 28, 2010 the Grey Cup game will be played in Edmonton, Alberta. As you might think, another cold day, and forecaster are just giving it a -4°C, with a 40% chance of snow. Now, as you know when it gets this cold and you are out in the elements for a long time, you can contract frostbite.
Whether you are a fan or player, here are some great ways to prevent frostbite if you are going to be at this Grey Cup Game:
1. When going to the Grey cup Game outdoors: try to wear an inner wicking layer, a middle insulating layer and an outer wind- and water-resistant layer for both your upper and lower body. Be sure you also have gloves or mittens (mittens are better), a hat, and wool or thick fleece socks.
2. Make sure you are wearing clothing that will not lose its insulating properties when wet. The primary offender is cotton; wool is much better as are many kinds of synthetic fleece.
3. Stay hydrated. Dehydration is a predisposing condition for frostbite and hypothermia. This does not include alcohol, which will make you dehydrated, and so dropping your body temperature.
4. Eat plenty of food, especially carbohydrates, which are quick to digest and easy for your metabolism to turn into heat. Eat small amounts frequently rather than large amounts infrequently. Consuming herbs and spices like black pepper, turmeric, cumin, fenugreek, fennel, nutmeg and coriander enhance immunity and are considered to be warming foods.
5. While in the cold try to stay in motion at all times, but do not over do it; you do not want to exhaust yourself. Self-massage can help you stay in motion. Whether you are a fan or a player, stay warm with Self-massage. Remember, self-massage helps increased circulation and oxygenation, which helps increase flexibility of the body. When the blood is pumping, the body feels warmer.
6. Self-massage is easy to do even if you have a lot of clothes on. Just rub your fingers, hand, arms, and legs. Make sure you keep moving if you are planning to stay for the whole game.
The body is under distress when it stays in extreme cold weather. With the right clothes, food, liquids and Self-massage you can make your Grey Cup game one to remember! But bear in mind that you can use Self-massage any time, any place and with or without a lot of cloths. You need relief? Just try self-massage!
